SCAN° & Transparenz
SCAN° – unsere smarte Kartensuche

SCAN° & transparency
How SCAN° finds your cards – and how Bent°Corner is made. As of 29 Oct 2026
No AI that could generate cards is trained with the card images – not with your alt-arts either. We only read them so that SCAN° finds the card when someone who owns it scans it.
SCAN° – our smart card search
We read the cards so we can find them again later when you scan a card you own. That is all. Technically this is fingerprinting: a fingerprint is computed once from every card image, and the same kind from the camera image when you scan – the most similar fingerprints are the candidates.
How the fingerprint works
- For Magic, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! we compute a fingerprint once for every card, from its small card image (from the sources Bent°Corner credits, e.g. Scryfall, TCGdex): a list of 384 numbers. Similar images give similar numbers.
- You download these lists (card number + numbers) as a data pack; they then live on your PC. The data packs contain no images. The app loads card images one by one when it needs them – Magic directly from the source, Pokémon, Lorcana and One Piece through our image mirror, Yu-Gi-Oh! from our server.
- When you scan, SCAN° computes the same kind of fingerprint from the camera image – on your PC.
- The cards with the most similar numbers are the candidates. A classic image comparison and reading the card number confirm which one it really is.
- The camera image never leaves your PC. The only thing that goes online while scanning is the request for the candidates’ card images (for the comparison) – it asks for the card number, not your image.
Disney Lorcana and One Piece have no fingerprint. For Lorcana, the scanner only reads the collector line at the bottom of the card (e.g. "5/204 • EN • 1").
Two ready-made building blocks do this inside the app; both run offline on your PC (CPU or graphics card) and are not modified: DINOv2-small by Meta for the fingerprint (Apache 2.0 license, description by Meta) and RapidOCR with Baidu’s PaddleOCR models for reading card number, set and language (Apache 2.0 license). Bent°Corner calls no internet service for this. All licenses are listed in the app under Settings → Legal.
Nothing is trained
- No AI that could generate cards is trained with the card images – not with alt-arts from the Scan Studio, and not with your scans, uploads or collections. Computing a fingerprint is not training: the building block stays exactly as it is – it is only used, like a calculator.
- For artists: if you upload your alt-arts, they are only read so that SCAN° finds the card when someone who owns it scans it. I review contributions by hand; accepted images go into the card database. They only go to fan projects with your additional consent (see the privacy policy).
- Scan data (crops of cards that were recognized wrongly) stays on your PC. "Send" currently only saves a ZIP file that you can pass on yourself. We use it to test the recognition.
Nothing is trained with your data. If that ever changes, this page and the privacy policy change first – and it only happens with your consent.
How Bent°Corner is made
The idea, the app design and the workflow are mine: I describe what should be made, compare drafts and decide what stays.
- Code: Bent°Corner, this website and its animations were written by Claude (AI by Anthropic) – to my specifications, reviewed and tested by me. The texts on this page were also worded by Claude from my input.
- Graphics: the logo, the app icon, the game icons and the other own graphics were made with AI. Not with a single prompt: I describe how it should look, say what I like about the drafts and what I do not, and have variants merged – usually five to ten rounds per graphic.
- Card images come from the publishers or the sources Bent°Corner credits and belong to their rights holders. Screenshots on this website show the real app. Deck suggestions and similar features follow fixed, hand-written rules.
